What Makes a City?

I'm curating a new show at Providence Marianwood. Stop by if you get a chance. It's a great show! The show runs Oct 1st - Nov 29th with an artist reception Wednesday, October 20th, 6-7pm.

The question of what makes a city has been a big topic of discussion in Eastside communities, especially as residents and city officials try to reach agreement on plans for future development. Yet, this question can also apply to the self-definition process and discussion that any vibrant community will engage in regularly. For this show, the participating artists have created artworks that present their answers to the question of "what makes a city?" The artwork covers a variety of media, including paintings, photography, collage, glass, fiber, and clay.

Gamblin

Went to a great demo last night at Bellevue Art and Frame by Scott Gellatly, product manager for Gamblin Oil Colors. Gamblin is by far my favorite paint to use. I like that all they do is oil so they really know what they are talking about and I also like that they are a Northwest company, headquartered in Portland. The Gamblin website is full of really helpful technical info about paint, solvents, mediums, etc.

Lipking and Pro

I'm a huge fan of painters Jeremy Lipking and Tony Pro. Both work in oil and are modern masters. They are also funny guys and put together this hilarious video, http://lipking.blip.tv/. It's a must watch for any plein air painter!

Spring Approaches

My crocuses are blooming, the daffodils have sprouted, and the pansies are in full bloom...so I painted this little oil painting and am calling it Spring Approaches.
